City Govt To Give Citations To 36 Outstanding Cagayanons
by Ian A. Fuentes/ City Information Office
The City Government of Cagayan de Oro is set to give commendations to some 36 outstanding individuals, businessmen, families and companies who displayed generosity, philanthropy and honesty to the city and fellow citizens.
The presentation of Plaques of Recognition by City Mayor Constantino G. Jaraula to the awardees on Friday, June 13, at 3:00 in the afternoon at the City Tourism Hall is one of the highlights of the 58th Charter Day celebration of Cagayan de Oro City. Cagayan de Oro, then under the mayorship of Max Y. Suniel, became a chartered city on June 15, 1950 after President Elpidio Quirino approved Republic Act No. 521 which was authored by Congressman Emmanuel Pelaez of Misamis Oriental. The awardees include the 34 donors to the construction of the MacArthur Memorial Marker which was successfully inaugurated on March 13, 2008 at the Old Pier in barangay Macabalan. They are: Mr. Henry B. Howard; Jaraula Development Corporation; Vice Mayor Vicente Y. Emano and family; Mr. Ko Suk Koo; Communities Philippines, Incorporated; Ororama Superstore; Toyota Cagayan, Inc.; Pueblo de Oro Development Corporation; Robinsons Land Corporation; Senora Congresswoman Benedicta “Liling” B. Roa; CEPALCO; Liceo de Cagayan University; Mr. and Mrs. Bryant Cragun; Coca Cola Brothers Bottlers, Inc.; Mr. and Mrs. Albino Limketkai; Del Monte Philippines, Inc. (cannery); Gaisano; Rio Verde, Inc.; Nestle Philippines, Inc. Cagayan de Oro; Congressman Rufus Bautista Rodriguez; Brown Energy Resources, Inc.; UKC Builders, Inc.; Cagay-anons of the Midwest (Chicago); Mr. and Mrs. Frank Rolida; Late Mayor and Mrs. Manuel Varquez and family; Late Engr. and Mrs. Diego Imperio and family; Olga Fernandez, Teresita Babaylan and Ludivina Fuentes; Mr. and Mrs. Henry Tan; Late Justice and Mrs. Benjamin K. Gorospe and family; Dr. Juan M. Montero ll; Rotary Club of Cagayan de Oro; Promote CDO Foundation, Inc.; Mr. Gilbert Gaw and Mr. Alarico and Mrs. Juliana Lim of CATIMCO. On the same occasion, Mayor Jaraula will also give special citations to the two honest taxi drivers who returned items left by their passengers while on board their units. Early in May this year, Ever Taxi driver Regalado Pailagao Jr. returned a Sony Ericsson T-650i cellular phone to its owner Jonathan Añana of Villa Ernesto, Gusa, which was witnessed by the mayor. A month later, another honest taxi driver of Ever Taxi, Jonathan Pailagao, who, incidentally is Regalado’s son, turned over a cellular phone worth P18,000 to its owner Brenjo Foronda and his mother Brenda, Mayor Jaraula said that the honesty displayed by the father and son drivers should serve as an example not only among taxi drivers but all Cagayanons as the city government envisions to transform Cagayan de Oro as a city of character. The city mayor pointed out that the laudable gesture displayed by the Pailagaos should also serve as an inspiration to all taxi drivers and boost Cagayan de Oro’s image as a more beautifully, more comfortably and more gracefully livable place. Mayor Jaraula said that the honesty manifested by local taxi drivers will also do good for the promotion of Cagayan de Oro as a safe place to stay for tourists and investors who will visit the city. On the sidelights, a re-launching of the book entitled “Thinking Along with Tinnex Jaraula” will also highlight the affair while the book signing will be held on June 13 at the SM City Event Center at 6:00 p.m. and at Limketkai Center at about 7:00 p.m. Wrapping up the joint celebration is a blood letting activity that will be held at the City Tourism Hall, right after the flag raising ceremony on Monday, June 16.
