Thinking back, after posting all this stuff, I think it's related to the dual install of PhotoShop CS5 32 and 64 bit at the same time. I did not do this on my other Windows 7 notebook, I installed them about 2 weeks apart.

Will restore the factory image again and start from scratch, this time only installing PS 32 bit. I want the system stable and am willing to spend another few hours playing with it.

Thanks for everyone's help public and private. I really like this Asus notebook, and can put up with tech support that doesn't know much, I had that major problem with my ThinkPad in 2007 and some other minor ones, Microsoft helped me out more than Lenovo tech support ever could, and MS was for the most part all free phone support. I think they charged me only once.

Only good computer tech support I have seen in the last year in Toshiba.
