"-Well, here is one key problem with the US going forward-"
oh my. in case M would like to read quite closely, I suggest the abused study: lincs.ed.gov
from which one can find the phrase that was persuasively spun (p.91) in obeisance to friedman's "crisis, actual or perceived": 47 percent [of ABE learners] scored at Levels 1 and 2.
however, 1. the 47% are ABE (Adult Basic Education) program students. in the u.s. this refers, almost exclusively, to adults who did not complete high school.
2. so, 47% of individuals who did not complete high school are functionally illiterate. that's not so surprising.
3. however, regarding ABE program students (p.91): most ABE learners are able to locate information in short texts and make low level inferences while reading but have difficulty locating and integrating information in longer texts (Tamassia, Lennon, Yamamoto, & Kirsch, 2007).
4. so, most of the students are able to read but have difficulty using information in longer texts...tax forms anyone?
what truly concerns me is the ongoing crisis-creation by numerous private organizations and public organizations that have been captured by the private sector (including obama's dept of education). the sh*t is so deep, it's nearly impossible to swim through it. capture complete? -ng-
and one wonders, too, about the role of naive disinformationing. transgressivism for all. -g- |
