Actually, "the public" didn't ask for the debts: <The public asked for the debts through over generous entitlements.. The other side of the coin is saying steal all you want and that's OK.. A fine lesson for the youth... > Politicians used debt to buy votes. "The public" wouldn't know a deficit if they fell over it.

And yes, it's important for youth to learn that in democracies as currently operated, "steal all you want" is the way it works. They need to understand that democracy should NOT be a slave-driving or serf-owning process. Providing such barbarities via the political process makes them no more ethical than direct ownership of serfs and slaves.

Most people simplistically think that if "the majority" says something is right, then it is. Most people thought that owning Negro slaves was fair enough, but it was not ethical.
