Intel Ups Dividend 16%; 3.6% Yield

By Tiernan Ray

Intel (INTC) shares are up 29 cents, or 1.2%, at $23.32 after the company this morning announced it raised its dividend 16% to 21 cents per share, or 84 cents a year, starting with the payout that will be declared in Q3.

That would give Intel a yield of 3.6%, up from 3.2% under the current 18.12-cent-per-share payout.

Intel said in the same statement that it spent $4 billion in Q1 buying back shares, after raising its buyback authorization in January by $10 billion, to $14.2 billion.

Intel noted that since 1992, the company has paid out $22 billion in dividends, and since 1990, it has bought back $74 billion in shares, or 3.6 billion shares in total. Together, “Intel’s dividends and stock buyback program have returned approximately $96 billion to shareholders.”
