I use the "water monopoly" when trying to convince people that monopolies are moral. It's amazing how many otherwise pro-freedom people are against monopolies. My favorite "I'm for Capitalism but," types.

Suppose you live in a community where one man owns the water supply and raises the price beyond reason? How do you handle that?

The answer, of course, is that he would go bankrupt if he did. His best course is to maximize his profit by selling you the the most efficient amount that his system will supply.
