Ted, > My friend's family is barely lower middle class living in Seattle.

Then why don't they move to Tacoma, where they draw the "low income" line 15% lower?

I bet the reason why they remain in Seattle is because they like it there. Or maybe they're stuck in a house that's gone underwater, in which case they should consider short-selling.

Either way, there are options. And that's the key to financial freedom, I learned in life. Taking whatever measures necessary to free oneself from overbearing debt, expensive lifestyles (such as living in Seattle), and maybe even dead-end career paths.

What measures have you taken to free yourself of overbearing debt? Inquiring minds really want to know how you've suffered financially by maintaining your cushy job at INTC.

And btw I find it interesting how you expect my friend to sacrifice whatever pleasures he currently has in life so he can go on teaching and not go back to his six figure job in the private sector. Such sentiment makes you the thread asshole of the week.......a competition hard to win on this thread.

Cause when both parents are working, pulling in $75K/year (at least), yet they're going nowhere financially, it's time to make some choices.

> You need to get out more and experience the world. You've led a very sheltered life.

There you go again with the projection.

I have lots of friends in Manhattan who make more than $75K/year yet live like they're dirt poor. Why? Because they like living in Manhattan. It's a lifestyle choice.

Now that's another oxymoron.......a winger having friends. Who would have thought?
