ed, this happens all the time...
and it messes up the inflation stat too.
since they don't compare the same thing all the time.
if a vcr adds a bunch of fantastic features and goes up 6% in price
the gov't counts that as inflation.
If a refrigerator adds energy efficeincy and actually saves the customer money on their electricity bill so that it is actually cheaper to buy...but if they compare it and it's 5% more then they count it aas inflation of 5%.
