You can't do it by spending alone. The problem is too big for just spending cuts.

I agree with this. But you should be able to agree that the rate of spending has to start to decrease if we are to get a handle on the problem. We need to stop the bleeding before we can tend to the wounds.

So the first part of the equation is to cut spending.

The second part of the equation is to increase revenues with which to pay off the debt. And this is where liberals and conservatives disagree.

The best way to increase tax revenues is to do exactly the opposite of what liberals want to do. If we decrease taxes it gives businesses more money with which to grow their business. Growing their business increases the tax base. It is actually a virtuous cycle. It works for individuals as well. Put more money in my pocket by decreasing taxes and I spend more money, thus stimulating.

Taxing and regulating businesses more is a disincentive to the economy as a whole. Putting any legislation in place that increases the general cost of doing business puts an even stronger stranglehold on the economy. The democrats policies that increase energy costs (both electric and oil based) is crippling our economy.

Right now, the democrats are spending more, taxing more and influencing the overall increased cost of doing business. This is a recipe for a catastrophic economic situation.
