>>If, as Iomega has promised, the clik shows up before 1998 is over, it is a product to contend with. However given Iomega's past history with this particular product (and I understand it is not trivial to start high yield volume manufacuring in a short span of time) I would be cautiously optimistic about it, as explained in my earlier message.<<

I think Iomega's accomplishments with clik! so far are pretty impressive. In just over a year, they have gone from a standing start to a working prototype which has been refined to be smaller, higher capacity and with lower power consumption. In addition, they have lined up support from a large group of industry powerhouses. They have two major manufacturing companies signed on to produce the drives, and at least one major company (Hitachi) already committed to using the drive in cameras and PDA's.
I think it is true that when clik! was first announced, last November, as n.hand, Iomega was unrealistically optimistic in their estimates of when it would ship. I certainly hope they've learned their lesson on that score.
Almost forgot why I was responding to you. I don't think the delays have had anything to do with ramping up production. It was about getting design feedback, refining the design, and gathering support. These are all necessary steps to getting this type of product off the ground.
