A few years back when Malibu was on fire, a friend had to evacuate. She and her husband were packing up as fast as they could and noticed a family of racoons at the patio sliding doors scratching the glass. She had been feeding them cat food and had given them names. She said she'll never forget the desperate look on their faces.
