Hi Gary: I think you are referring to this: "I think LSI has some thing with
QCOM and a new GSM chip for next year"

I can see how this could be taken to mean a GSM chip for QCOM. But that was not my intent. These were supposed to refer to 2 things:

(1) an already signed deal with QCOM - a CDMA license agreement
lsilogic.com

(2) and separate GSM deals with other customers techstocks.com
In addition, the company's single chip GSM solution is
experiencing strong design wins from branded consumers electronic companies, which
should translate into solid growth in 1998.

I do not know much about these communication acronyms (!) but everyone seems to be speaking CDMA and you are right about QCOM - they are well positioned and if they continue to execute they should do very well. Regarding the demise of GSM - perhaps but not too soon. I know for instance that VLSI sells a GSM solution to ERICY and ERICY is selling their phones in very high volumes in Europe. If QCOM somehow has something to bridge these standards and provide a better CDMA solution like you are implying, QCOM definitely has something good here but I don't know enough to comment.
