Ken, sorry... was trying to make a point in a running conversation on this board where CA seems to be the favorite target of jabs and jokes esp. wrt to politics... you are right, of course and I am deeply sorry... I still have many friends in rural TN from my years there (though I still do not like the climate in SW TN, it's not the people's fault).
I've lived in many states, and in many rural areas around the midwest, northern states, mid south and now SoCal... every area has its quirks...
My comment (which I regret) was part of the continuing sport of CA bashing here... aside from all of us being called fruits and nuts, we are blamed for almost everything bad in this country it seems.
I, of all people, should not have said what I did about the rural south as I was guilty of the exact same thing wrt to the rural south as many here are wrt SoCal.
My apologies.
FWIW, where I lived in TN, we would have been able to discuss it further over a drink, but not legally as it was a dry county (with only 23,000 people) -- or more precisely, alcohol was widely available, but not legally... the locals tended to drink wet, but vote dry, letting Miss. liquor stores (only 18 miles away) reap the taxes while our county was always broke as we paid Miss. liquor taxes that could have been collected locally.
