Japan, China, S. Korea: Nuclear Energy Still Important Option By ANDREW MONAHAN and OWEN FLETCHER

TOKYO—The leaders of Japan, China and South Korea pledged to increase their cooperation on nuclear safety and disaster preparedness and reaffirmed the importance of nuclear energy, after a powerful earthquake and tsunami in Japan in March sparked a nuclear crisis.

The statements underline continued interest by the leaders in developing nuclear energy despite risks that were highlighted by the crisis at Japan's Fukushima Daiichi reactor.
