Skeeter, << TI volume their weakness >>

I spent the last 10 years of my career in mixed signal or mixed
signal support. I know little of TI's dram business, except that
memories were being pushed to joint ventures with Japan. The volume
I refer to was TI's ability to build, maximize yields, across numerous
process flows with multiple designs within each flow. A difficult
task when it comes to continually turning dials with fab equipment,
yet many products were yielding well above 90%. Hence the name
'mixed signal'. We were meeting deliveries during the 1995 bubble in
business, while others couldn't. Volume #'s may be privy info????
As for innovation, mixed signal was committed to meeting customer
requests. Customers pretty much directed the design efforts to be
focused on their needs. Creativity may be in the way some of the
demanding technical issues were addressed. Mixed signal has a killer
design team. It was BOUGHT. Management even grew nerveous about the
dollars being poured in top notch designers, but the design manager
held firm, and it paid off big time. I'm reluctant to give names as
head hunters are on a constant look and the cohesiveness of this team
is a major player to it's success. Enough babbling. Just waiting for
digital t.v. and home control centers. This is when I expect TI to
shine. This appliance thing intrigues me, although I can't see the
big picture on this one.
