Could be why some folks switched from ice age to global warming to climate change, with stops at ozone hole and acid rain along the way. Why people will believe the honeybees and polar bears and monarch butterflies and (pick a number) % of all species on earth will go extinct soon. They want something like that to be true. Nope. Not analogous but nice try.
