The classified ads for jobs at Qdel are still in the San Diego paper this morning - I am especially intrigued by the ad from Eastridge (a temporary agency, according to Ambryn Man) for manufacturing personnel. It says 1st and 2nd shift available. I still think this indicates a very healthy demand for Qdel's strep a test- hopefully this will result in a great 3rd quarter. Does anyone know of the relationship, if any, between Boehringer Mannheim and Boehringer Ingelheim?? I am still intrigued by what appears to be the interrelationship between various companies. For example, on 7-1-97, Qdel announced an agreement w/ Innovative Biotechnologies for a chip based disposable diagnostic device- a feasibility study, I believe (anyone know when we can expect any news on this??) While checking out Innovative Biotechnologies, I noticed it had agreements w/ MediSense and Boehringer Ingelheim- If memory serves me correctly, Medisense was taken over by Abbott a few years ago for its diabetes product and Qdel director, Richard C.E.Morgan, was a principal in MediSense. Also, Qdel's new vice chairman, Andre deBruin, was the CEO of Boehringer Mannheim before he joined Somatogen-also the business partner (Jack Shuler, a former executive at Abbott) of one of Qdel's largest shareholders (Larry Feinberg of Oracle Partners) is apparently on ther BOD of Somatogen - I don't mean to appear to be grasping at straws, it just seems that the deeper I look into these companies, the more interrelated they seem. Any one else notice this??? |
