Microsoft is successful because it has been instrumental in bringing computing to the masses. There is no question that MS software is bloated and buggy, but it allows users like me to do the stuff we want to do. I don't want to write programs, I want to process words and manipulate data and get information.

Are there better programs out there to do this? Sure, but Microsoft puts it all together with product, packaging, price, distribution, and the rest of the Marketing bundle. They have become a near-monopoly because they do this so much better than anyone else.

I would like to see this thread return to a discussion of Microsoft's stock value and what's impacting it. That's the real issue.

(I look forward to a snappy retort to my ignorant comments; who knows, I may even be a new definition!)
