Again a good reply. However LG, Samsung, MOT, Sony and many other handset vendors did have the same relationships (at least initially) with QCOM/Paul as well.

Combining a vision (Samrtphone only), plus outstanding industrial designs (as good as Apple or others) plus chips, UI, manufacturing quality, and many lucks contributed to HTC's success.

That vision (smartphone only) is no stranger to QCOM, MOT, and other handset vendors. To do it just right with proper executions and many luck do mean something from a top rank CEO's decsion.

Apple's IPhone series (started 2007. HTC started even earlier)are doing basically the same business model with the same success.
