First, the abortion argument is all about religion....

No it isn't. Religious beliefs impact on it in a big way, but its not a religious issue. Its not an issue of theology or dogma about God or gods, or worship, or religious organization.

Much or our legal and political system comes out of religion.

Inspired by the ideas of religious people, or by moral ideas that are contained within, or perhaps even developed by religion. That's fine, even in a society that prohibits establishment of religion. The ideas, even though they are connected to religions, are not themselves religious. We don't have laws that say "you must worship X", or "you must accept dogma Y". Religiously inspired moral and philosophical and political ideas and actual religion (theology, religious dogma, religious organization, worship and religious ritual) can be highly intertwined, but they are not the same thing.

Also there are people on both sides of the issue who hold their beliefs for non-religious reasons.
