Hence I'm not impressed by the Chevrolet Volt.

I'm not either. There is some new technology there, but its an incremental improvement, not something radically new. Nothing wrong with incremental improvement, its very important, but we would need a lot more of it for such vehicles to possibly take over the auto market.
