Longest span without a tornado rated F5 or EF5

Before the Greensburg EF5 tornado on May 4, 2007, it had been 8 years and one day since the US has had a confirmed F5 or EF5 tornado. The last confirmed F5 or EF5 hit southern Oklahoma City and surrounding communities during the May 3, 1999 event. This is the longest interval without a F5 or EF5 tornado since official records began in 1950.

Its meaningless data Tim. Why? Because most tornadoes don't get rated........they occur in rural areas causing little or no damage.

And my concern is not just about record tornadoes. In the past year, this country alone has had record snowfalls in the East, record rainfalls in the Midwest, a severe drought in TX and OK, worst than the dustbowl drought of the 1930s and record cold temps on the west cost. In addition there have been catastrophic floods and storms throughout the world this past year and a severe drought in the Amazon region where many believe the earth's weather originates.

Is it climate change? I can not know that for a fact but I am sure as hell concerned as should you be. Furthermore, as I type this post, farmers are struggling throughout this country to grow their crops during a growing season that is anything but conducive to growing. Some countries of the world depend mightily on our food exports. Its looking like those exports will be way down this year.
