"Just because Apple can get away with the proprietary full control approach does not mean others can easily do the same." While I agree with you, it is easy to see why they are trying it. They are struggling to get out of the commodity box that Carly put them in. Now that Oracle has torpedoed their Itanium servers, they don't have anything else left.
