The rest of my post was largely pointing out the tax incidence is a complex question and its uncertain who effectively pays the taxes. Saying the incidence falls on consumers rather than the company (the workers or the investors) is idle and uninformed speculation.

What's not speculation is the fact that governments makes much more off the sale of oil and refined oil products in the US then the major oil companies do.
