<<I have a 4:40 in the first mile of the Manchester Road Race (downhill for the 1st quarter mile) but never broke 12 seconds in a 100 yard.>> Like i say, sprinters and distance runners are two different animals--except some sub-4minute one mile runners that seem to be able to sprint a 220 yd pace at the strategic time.
Are talking Manchester England, i have a friend over there that swipped himself from NOT good condition by going into a training program to run in Manchester 10k meter run--and he did complete the 10k meter o.k. He did that at 52--so i bet you could work down to mos def under 7.Max
