I would point to Android 2.0 and the TI OMAP 3650 as the turning point for Android, actually. That what Verizon and Google unleashed with the original Droid, which was the first successful Android phone. Snapdragon and 2.1 came out with the Nexus One, and Google only sold a few of those.

I said it myself that the Xoom was like the G1 of smartphones, except that people already knew they wanted or needed smartphones. No one needs a tablet. Honeycomb's just not ready for prime time. 3.1 is just more of the same, so I expect a similarly chilly reception by the masses. To continue the 2.0 analogy, Google is going to need to come up with something as enticing as Google Navigation was for people to change their mind about an Android tablet.
