Tarsis recently announced the staking of
the Burns property in Western Yukon.
Surface work last fall identified an area
prospective for both copper-gold porphyry
and skarn-type deposits.
The MOR property, in southern Yukon,
is just 1.5 km from the Alaska Highway
and 3 km from a proposed hydroelectric
generating facility. The property is conducive
to VMS (volcanogenic massive
sulphide) type deposits. Drilling by Tarsis
and previous operators encountered
multi-percent zinc-lead-copper mineralization
with silver and gold credits over
narrow widths. Further work is needed
to identify zones with suitable grades
and thicknesses.
The Goz Creek property is located in
eastern Yukon. Drilling in 1974 produced
extremely high zinc values, with
some intervals in excess of 30%. A
1970s resource estimate outlined 2.9
million tonnes grading 11% zinc, encompassing
650 million pounds. (Those
figures are a non-compliant historical
estimate.) Further drilling by Tarsis in
2008 suggested the potential to expand
the size of that deposit.
Results included 28 meters at 17% zinc
and 40 g/t silver. Other areas with zinc
values at surface have yet to be drill
tested.
The Tim deposit in southern Yukon is
12 kilometers northeast of Silvercorp's
Silvertip deposit, which hosts 30 million
ounces of silver plus substantial lead and
zinc.
Silvercorp just completed a preliminary
assessment of that project and intends to
continue to advance it toward production.
Work on the Tim project in the 1980s
shows the Tarsis property to be in a
similar geological setting to Silvertip.
Surface sampling encountered silver
values over a considerable area. The
company also has two other projects in
that region.
The near-term direction for the Tarsis
share price will depend somewhat on
drill results from Mexico. Normally,
betting on drill results involves odds
stacked against the investors. In this
case, the strong management team and
the diversity of projects add a level of
comfort. Over the coming weeks, the
company should gain increased attention
as the field season in the Yukon nears.
Successful results could have a big impact
on the value of the company.
