This thread has gotten way off focus. The focus should be on the forest (ie. New Departure, software aquisitions). I think New Departure is by far the most important.

Having said that, the software part shouldn't be overlooked. Even though the PR on New Departure aquisition didn't flat out say it, the software looks to me as a CSM (Component, Supplier, Management) solution. CSM is a rapidly growing/expanding market, as companies realize that CSM can save them time/money.

This is what I think there product does (If it does they should present it like this):

Example (in the Bearing industry): An engineer needs a bearing, but doesn't know the part # or Vendor. All he knows is that he needs a resistance between 3-5 ohms AND that the bearing must be of type X. The product will return all items that matched his criteria. The bearing could come from several different vendors, and it is then up to procurement (based upon pricing) to approve/purchase it. It also saves time because the engineer can determine if that part does or doesn't exist (if it doesn't then he has to create it).

Maybe you particularly don't like one tree in the forest. Do you like the forest (MIDL) overall as an investment? What is your take on New Departure and the software co.'s/products?

Kurt
