I see the Park Police crushing a guy that can't even move being accussed [sic] of resisting.
I watched the video several times. In my opinion, the cops only used the force that was necessary for the situation. If you've ever wrestled, you'd know that even when there's no apparent movement there's plenty of resistance going on.
If Jefferson was there, he'd not only be shocked he would be the one resisting arrest himself. Jefferson himself was very very very liberal.
He was liberal in the classical sense, no doubt. However, he and the other founding fathers were imbued with a reverence for things that were to be respected. There are and were times and places for solemnity and times and places for peaceful protest. The law with respect to the Jefferson monument does not allow demonstrations within the memorial - it is incumbent upon everyone, including childish, professional agitators, to respect the rights of others to enjoy a peaceful visit to a solemn place, many of whom traveled great distances. Jefferson was a "rule of law" man and would have expected the law to be respected, even though this is a common sense, common decency issue. The problem in this country is that there is now very little humility and respect for others. Unbridled behavioral selfishness is rampant this day. Had Jefferson disagreed with the law, he would have tried to have it taken off the books or, if protesting, would have gladly been arrested without resisting, inviting a chance to have it adjudicated.
Also, as can be seen, the video was edited to not include the dancing that brought the cops to the memorial. The video starts only when there are many cops present and already verbally warning the offenders. It doesn't show the dancing that brought the cops, nor the approach of the cops and perhaps the first requests for them to leave the premises. Two of those arrested, Medea Benjamin and Adam Kokesh are activists/professional agitators, she being a co-founder of Code Pink and he having a military background with several misconduct charges (with his honorable discharge being reduced to a general discharge under honorable conditions). From that it is clear that they organized the "dance" to provoke the Park Police.
Such undignified behavior in a place reserved for dignity, and the people who support such behavior (who themselves are usually historically and lawfully illiterate), shows how far this country has fallen in the realm of personal responsibility.
