It's the other way around: printing keeps OTC derivatives
from being undone, and that was the whole purpose government
guarantees, or puts written by the government and
backed by the printing press. Naturally, as derivatives
melted, banks and others cashed the free puts, and printing
had to be started. If none of that happened, we would
have a derivative meltdown, counterparties going under and
contracts getting defaulted upon. That would reduce their
number for sure -vbg-

The GSE-s: Wrote free puts on the whole housing market.
The government still pretends it does not own them -vbg-
