re: cloud service backgrounder okay, I'm just in the process of reading one key book which IMHO provides a lot of the background stories and info on the subject of cloud services / utility based computing. The book is - the Big Switch by Nicholas G. Carr (2008,2009) this is the same author who once called IT as "nonstrategic" becuase every industry is currently built on the same software building blocs. He drew a lot of fire from some consultants and corners of the IT industry alike but imho he was on to something important. The "Big Switch" is written in the same tradition. The author draws some important inferences from the history of electricity, from decentral power generation to the birth of the "utility" concept. best to all CROSSY
