What I don't understand... with all the bright minds here in the Silicon Valley, why hasn't one of them figured out a way to replace the investment bankers with a low-cost dutch auction internet company to go directly to investors?

Are the bankers so powerful that they won't suffer the same fate as newspaper help wanted ads (LinkedIn) and classified (EBay) and many others?
