I see...so debt is the number 1 issue the country is grappling with but the clearly demonstrated debt caused by the bush tax cuts don't play a role, particularly if they are followed by a severe economic downturn, which means that the pols in power will feel compelled not to end them for fear of embittering the recession and thereby adding even more debt to the debt. Interesting logic...

Obama increased debt during his first year almost as much GWB did in his first FOUR years. And it has gotten only worse. The Bush tax cuts did not cause the trillions upon trillions of dollars in unfunded liabilities from the failed Medicare and Social Security programs. These, of course, are the "#1 issues" in the country, as they should be. They threaten the nation's continued existence, at least in its current form.

Bush inherited Medicare and Social Security, as did presidents back to their respective inceptions. There is literally nothing that can be done about these programs. They're on autopilot and a president has zero influence over them.

On the other hand, Obama could have stopped the Bush tax cuts his first year in office. Instead, he chose to create a new health care entitlement that massively increases deficits for years to come.

Then, when the Bush tax cuts were extended, he quietly signed the extension into law, proclaiming, "I won't do THIS again".

You cannot go through life blaming other people for your own mess.
