Pixar did not buy those SGI boxes. SGI violated Pixar's patent on stochastic dithering and a few other things and SGI gave Pixar a $500K credit towards hardware to settle the suit. Pixar did buy quite a few of those 16 processor shoeboxes that Sun sells for rendering. the compositing of Toy Story was done with Interactive Effects "Amazon" on SGI workstations. vincent
