I always run Acronis from the original CD.

One strange quirk is, when I got Acronis 2011, I boot from the CD. I back up the drive to an external. I shut the machine down and remove the CD. When I reboot it sits there with a black screen for several minutes doing nothing that I am aware of, no drive activity, before the login appears. On the second reboot, everything is back to normal.

Obviously Acronis IS doing something to my original drive during the process.

The first time it happened I panicked, thinking the original drive was hosed.

Using Windows XP.
