Rocky: Re: Matsushita Deal.

Just read your post about the Matsushita deal and had to get my two
cents in. Like you, I think the Matsushita deal is a great deal, for now. I Don't know where you're from, but the Philadelphia Enquirer, (no relation to the tabloid), here has been running a week long series, by a 2-time pulitzer prize winning 2-man team (Embarassingly enough, I can't remember there names at the moment) on how the "American Dream" has deteriorated to such an extent. (Another pulitzer prize should be given to them for this series, in my opinion) Anyhow, yesterdays section involved, among other things, licensing agreements with other companies worldwide whose countries have effectively shut thier borders to American made products to such extent that the only means of "entering" these markets is via licensing agreements. Short term, it has been a profitable experience. Long Term, the effect has been the giving away of technology which eventually leads to disaster for the Licenser. (I'll stop now before I end up writing a 10 page paper on the subject, besides this isn't a "trade" forum)

Anyhow, like you, I like the prospects of the Matsushita deal. I think it will certainly be a profitable one for Iomega. I own the stock, and I will continue to buy it on the lows, no ifs, ands, or buts. But, I hope you understand why I CRINGED when I heard the news. I hope Iomega doesn't decide to continue the practice.

BTW, The Philladelphia Enquirer has a web page somewhere around here. If interested, check out the series. You'll probably get a nice summary of each portion of the series.

OWN AND BUYING,
Tony M.
