It's fine to be skeptical, but I don't think we have better data available. These were channel checks by an analyst who makes his living doing channel checks. On the other hand, it doesn't surprise me at all to hear that Android handsets as a group are selling as well or better than the iPhone on Verizon or on AT&T. US consumers bought 12 million Android handsets in the first quarter, and it stands to reason that Verizon sold their fair share, so it's not that outrageous to think they outsold Apple's 2.2 million and continued that trend into the current quarter. As for AT&T, in Q1, the iPhone had 60% of their smartphone sales, but that was before the Infuse, which is apparently their best selling Android handset at the moment. Certainly, the trend is probably be favoring Android right now (which is to say only that iPhone probably has less than 60% in the current quarter).
