ben, your unscientific data gathering is not supported by the research report I just got about the last 4 week sales....
Plus, cpq just now started dropping prices of the p233...
something I thought would happen 3 weeks ago. It means that sales on that unit were going way ahead of schedule(to just now be dropping prices)
plus no price drops on the 799 yet...( can't beleive this)
that means they are selling ahead of schedule.
Here's the real poop...cpq has price decreases already paid for and planned for the nov 1 to dec 31 period.
if you see price drops there is extra supply and cpq wants to stay ahead.
the recent report shows that cpq is still in monster lead over the others.
PB is a far down there 2nd place and they still have quality problems.
the presarios biggest problem is got to much in the start up menu and that makes it difficult to set up. That's why the store is setting them up free.... they are hard to set up.
I think on some pc's cpq has 60%..not 40%...
You can expect this qtr to be another record qtr and you can expect cpq to put more distance between them and no. 2 and no 3.
Here's what you are missing...cpq has huge price drops planned on the retail. when they haven't happened yet, that is extra profit ahead of plan/......count on some price drops that will knock your socks off this yearend... the other companies pb, hwp, ibm,, ctx have tremendous inventory becasue cpq got some much of the market share.
they will drop their pc's to almost cost to move them and make room for new models.....
cpq knew this would happen and they have planned in drops to counter their moves.

I work a few hundred yds from where the sub 800 pc is assembled...
demand is still strong but it doesn't have to be like it was at first
to give cpq great lead... they are also on 2 shifts.
I'll let you know when they go to three shifts.
