Praveen:

In my eyes no major mafg'er in their right mind will go for any current AMD product: not enough volume, and no guarantee the old quality problems are resolved.

Vinod leaving symbolizes to me that the K7 is either going to be a flop (he was working on that at NexGen), or that they disagree. Don't forget that this guy (& his team) came out with the original Pentium architecture. He's an incredibly loyal and able guy. Not a bull-shit artist, which is probably why he didn't fit in at AMD.

Ever since the K5 AMD has not been able to come up with aything competitive. They cannot guarantee any volume, and their yields are miserable (I have heard that even the 30-40% is a cosmetically adjusted figure).

His ouster just proves that AMD is going nowhere with their micro-P development. What else do they have to offer in that segment - or better said, when will they be able to offer anything significant (volume- and quality-wise, and most importantly, at a solid profit (meaning in-time to market tendency (set by intel/Cyrix))).

Just my opinion - do let us know if there are other things in the background. It would be great to see a true alternative to intel in the micro-P market, but I don't really see one at present (even Cyrix is only low-end). I would love to see someone give intel a really good run for the money!

K.
