Oil usage rates ...world usage is upwards of 30bil barrels/year and US is about 1/4 of that @ 7Bil/year barrels and produces 1/4 of the world's carbon emmissions. You see how daunting these numbers are in relation to that 700mil barrel Brazilian/XOM recent find is ? At 85mil barrels per day total world consumption were pretty much near that Max Pain point , unless we "drill baby drill".

We were musing just a while back on this thread what if a billion Chinese suddenly developed a yen for coffee & what would happen to coffee prices , when tobago jack teased. Below was the example of comparative current usage rates between China & US currently , with China growth still clipping along at 8% one gets a quick sense of what lay in store just down the road . Big numbers yes?

(And doesn't look like we won many friends over in Iraq after
"liberating" them ...soon the oil cold war heats up in earnest , already has .)

China vs USA oil usage per person per year

China uses about two barrels a year of oil per person. In the United States we use 23 barrels of oil per person per year. If China’s usage grew to the U.S. equivalent, it would be 85 million barrels a day, which is about the total consumption of oil for the world,
