I don't think Alghieri was saying that, but he seems to be assuming that the Bush tax cuts did not have any effect in cutting short the Clinton recession of 2001. Actually i was saying two things... 1. that the tax cuts do/did not increase revenue as inode vehemently mantains...indeed the 01 cuts significantly decreased revenue over the last ten years...it took six years to get back to the same revenue baseline as we had in 2001, longer if you consider inflation adjusted dollars, and it delivered a new lower base from which we declined even further when the great recession hit. 2. the tax cuts failed to have a lasting positive effect on the economy...they may have had some stimulative influence in 2001, we can't know for sure, but they certainly failed to have any in the long term... Frankly I believe that our economic problems are structural and far more complex than a simple slowdown in economic output, which might see some benefit from a tax cut. Al
