It is VERY tricky for a President to meddle in State politics, what looks like a doable from afar can be full of unknown minefields.

The endorsements may have been a return of favors to those gave him votes on tough bills. You're acting like you want him to be FDR or LBJ, but they had something Obama didn't---enough votes--or years of favors to call in.
