I think you missed the French Open women's final. Also the last Summer Olympics. China won the most gold medals. 51 China vs 36 USA.

>There were 43 new world records and 132 new Olympic records set at the 2008 Summer Olympics. An unprecedented 86 countries won at least one medal during the Games. Chinese athletes won the most gold medals, with 51, and 100 medals altogether, while the United States had the most medals total with 110.>

>Keep in mind that qualitative matters more than quantitative and there's no law of nature that says more and more Chinese being born would increase the proportion who can win in the NBA or could keep pace with Usain Bolt or excel against Bobby Fischer or Gary Kasparov. It's a matter of quality, not so much quantity.>
