Hi CusterInvestor-

Re: Vanguard Brokerage

Earlier this year I cashed in some of my IRA Vanguard Funds and moved the proceeds into their (fairly new) Vanguard brokerage division. They charge a flat $7.00 transaction fee which is better than I get through Schwab.

I bought some PVX in that account and it has been spinning off monthly dividends at a good clip. I called today to see if I could participate in the company's dividend reinvestment program and receive their 5% discount. At this time it is not available. They will reinvest your dividends w/ no fee but you do not receive the company 5% discount.

I did learn that their $7.00 fee cover all foreign "pink sheet" stocks too. So I bought some more of the MARINE HARVEST ASA (Other OTC: MNHVF.PK ) fish farm company. This stock is down a lot from my original buy around $1.20/share. They make dividend distributions twice a year based on their fish farm revenues. Last year's amount was around a 9% distribution. I still suspect their could be some Foreign stock transaction fee (Ameritrade charges $15.00) but the Vanguard broker checked and said no additional fees. I probably should have had that put in writing.

I sold some of my Vanguard GNMA (yielding 3.3%) to fund my buy of MNHVF In this account I also own the Vanguard 500 Index Fund and the Vanguard International Growth Fund. All three of these Vanguard Funds have the lowest expense ratio(s) in the industry.

Maybe in the future they will off the company sponsored DRIP program(s). Then they will be super competitive in all of their investment products.
