"You are a seeker of understanding and truth. Throughout all of history (except acient Greece) folks like you have always been misunderstood, and burned at the stake-lol."

The Athenians voted to have Socrates put to death (a 1000 person jury) (via a cup of Hemlock) for "impiety" against the gods and corrupting young men though his ideas.

According to my wife, who is my instant go to source for all things ancient, they asked Socrates what his sentence should be and he could have said exile, which probably would have been granted, but instead he said that the government should give him a free dinner every day for the rest of his life. The ruling powers thought Socrates ideas were a threat to the Athenian Democratic ways.

So now am I a misanthropic pedantic person?
