Once again, Reg, you are changing the subject of our argument. We were arguing over whether people really have a choice of OS. Now, you change it to be about whether there was any competition. To argue that people have a choice because MSFT does not own 100% of the market is like arguing that people have a choice of not paying their taxes. Yes, I could stop paying my taxes, however I will have to endure severe consequences by not doing so. Thus, even though it may be a pain in the ass, it is less so than not paying. Also, most of the "superiority" MSFT has over the competition is simply a reflection of the monopoly status MSFT has. It bears almost no relationship to any value that MSFT has brought but more to do with the great FUD and licensing contracts that MSFT has squeezed out of the industry by way of its monopoly. Your point about OS/2 is bogus since MSFT was a partner in developing it. They simply de-emphasized it in favor of Windows development. And IBM was arrogant and asleep at the wheel, not seeing what was going on, feeling that they had control and that MSFT would not be able to pull it off.
