There were Loyalists everywhere! Riding on a Horse and yelling isn't exactly a clandestine way of telling minutemen to be prepared! The Loyalists now know that there is no surprise raid on munitions and firearms. The Brits were really after a few cannons. I think they were brass cannons. There were three of them as I recall.
