Gene,

<Seem's that what you define as the low end of the business is the bulk of Intel's business.>

On the contrary. What I define as low end (i.e. Segment 0) is a relatively small portion of Intel's business and an even smaller portion of their future business and opportunity which will be geared towards high end high margin products. I see Intel chips dominating the server market and helping to push the PC revolution even futher into the area of mini and mainframe computers. This is where I see growth....also in mobile computing where Intel is unchallenged. The mobile computing segment of the market is growing every bit as fast as Segment 0. Given that these two segments have been estimated to be growing at roughly the same rate, I think I would be much happier to be dominating the mobile segment and sharing the low end with my competitors than have it the other way around.

As for AMD, you don't really believe that all their problems are production related do you?? Their pricing strategy will not work at any yield level. I really don't want to go into this again, but their 25% below Intel declaration is inherently flawed, unnecessary, and a losing strategy. This is not the way you get your fair shair of EARNINGS in a growing market. AMD has not yet figured out that they should be trying to maximize profits not market share. AMD could grow their business very very well without gaining any market share if they had the right strategy.

As for contrarian opinions I share your desire to hear all arguments (not hype) on both sides. In this case, I am clearly the contrarian opinion to most of the industry pundits who are certain that Segment 0 PC's are taking over the technology revolution and will seriously hurt Intel. IMO, what I offer is the contrarian view to a mass hysteria surrounding Segment 0 PC's and their affect on Intel's business.
