>> Until the deficit hawks convinced FDR to start trimming spending

You do not know this history. Clearly. While we think of FDR today as a spending lunatic, he was not a proponent of deficit spending, generally, and it was FDR himself -- not "deficit hawks convincing FDR" -- who triggered the reduced spending of the late 30s that led to the Roosevelt Recession.

Roosevelt, himself, stated that his programs would be considered a failure if they became fiscal burdens on the taxpayers. He NEVER envisioned a 15% social security tax rate or an unemployment insurance system that was funded from general revenue. Never.

>> It took the even greater spending of WWII to finally end it.

There is zero evidence to suggest it was WWII "spending" that ended the Depression. If anything, it reflects coincidental events. As Morganthau himself suggested, if spending were the problem the Depression would have ended much sooner.

What you, and liberals generally, seem not to get is that bad economies are ended by one thing -- CONSUMER CONFIDENCE. This is what ended the Depression. It is what ended the Carter recession. A lack of it is what CAUSED both the Clinton and Bush II recessions. And it is INDISPUTABLE that a lack of consumer confidence in Obama has prolonged the Obama recession. (The Bush I recession was caused by Bush announcing he would sign off on tax increases).

It is time to take off your partisan liberal cloak and start to look at the facts. Unless and until someone comes along who can inspire consumer confidence, we are stuck with this horrid economic situation.
