Your answer describes the problem. Lets just use your opinion. Do you think having to recall 90,000 implanted defective hip units makes J&J look competent? Or is it a serious hit to their credibility?.
Do you think redoing 90,000 hip implants is not a serious hit to there balance sheet? Of course you have to throw in the legal obligations. This is costly in every regard monetary and credibility.
It also tells the world they do not care about their own customers to let the problem fester for so long.
